Today, on the 22nd of March is World Water Day- a day organized by the United Nations to celebrate mankind’s most precious commodity, which has unfortunately for years been overlooked, taken for granted, wasted, and polluted by humans.

This year’s specific focus is on the growing disvalue of water, a very serious problem that is worsening year after year. This phenomenon transcends national borders, wealth, technological advancement, and the availability of water in each country. It leads to tons of water being wasted every day by unconcerned private citizens and corporations, which together with the enormous waste perpetrated every day by unsustainable agriculture, not only contributes to the irreversible extinction of thousands of species of plants and animals but also consequently threatens humans existence. In light of the following quote by Thomas Fuller which says: "We never know the worth of water, till the well is dry.” let’s not react when it is too late, act now when we still can!

To combat this very serious problem, everyone needs to contribute with small gestures aimed at water preservations, combined with the support for the creation of policies to secure water resources and harshly penalize large industrial giants, which have for years disregarded the value of the water resources and well-bein of its biodiversity. Therefore, only proactive behavior will give the right value to water, and ensure a better life for all- nature, animals, and humans. And don’t forget that humans are only part of the ecosystem, let’s be ECO and not EGO.
